DYNAMICS OF MAGNETIC FLUID CAPILLARY RISE IN POROUS MEDIUM

Abstract

Bstract: In the present work the capillary flow of magnetic fluid in a single cylindrical capillary and in a porous medium under the action of a non-uniform magnetic field is studied experimentally. The dynamics of the capillary rise has been considered. It has been demonstrated that the non-uniform magnetic field with upward directed gradient accelerates the capillary rise; contrary, the non-uniform magnetic field with downward directed gradient decelerates the capillary rise. The obtained results have been analyzed. The method of the study of magnetic fluid capillary rise based on the use of magnetic measurements has been proposed. The potential applications to the porous materials characterization technique have been discussed.
